CNA students at Job Corps

Academics

In addition to career training, Old Dominion Job Corps also provides academic training, including basic reading and math. Courses in independent living, employability skills, and social skills are offered in order to help students transition into the workplace. We also have several academic programs to help our students achieve their full potential.

GED/High School Diploma

One of our top goals at Old Dominion Job Corps is to ensure that every qualified student obtains his or her GED/high school diploma prior to leaving the center. Students who don't already have a high school diploma upon their arrival at Old Dominion can enroll in our GED program.

We also offer two fully-accredited online high school diploma programs, New Summit and Penn-Foster High Schools. Students are required to earn 21 credits to receive their diplomas. In most cases, students receive credit for their previous high school classes.

Advanced Career Training

Advanced Career Training (ACT) is a program for eligible Job Corps students to achieve a higher level of career training. Students in the ACT program can receive further training in the following career fields for several training providers:

  • Automotive repair (AAMCO, United Auto Workers)
  • Culinary arts (Treasure Island Culinary Institute)
  • Electrical wiring (Dominion Electric)
  • Facilities maintenance (Archstone-Smith Properties)
  • Painting (Painting and Decorating Contractors of America)
  • Pharmaceutical Technician (CVS Pharmacy)
  • Plumbing (Roto-Rooter)
